How Private Equity Affects Private Practice with Arya Prasad, MD
Private equity has become increasingly involved in healthcare for many years now. Takeovers are happening all the time, and the downstream effects on employee wellbeing and patient care are often criticized.
While the biggest stories and research projects have tended to focus on how private equity influences hospitals and health systems, not much has been said about the effects on private practice.
Dr. Arya Prasad, a research fellow at the University of Pittsburgh, aims to change that with her recent paper titled "Perceptions of Private Equity in Private Practice: Insights from Ophthalmology." She explains why she chose to study private practice, ophthalmology groups in particular, and shares some key insights from her research.
